

With that cable plugged in to the 48kHz In port there will not be a sync light on the BB. I’ve tried cabling it up with and without a terminator. Doesn’t matter whether or not I use a terminator. Just having fun playing around with stuff is the only ”reason” to do this…īy valid sync I mean that the BB sync light won’t come on. There may be better ways to solve this, like maybe setting the QS8 to 48kHz, Int and using a LightPipe connection, and then slave the Big Ben to the ADAT input, but I would love to get the "final word" on that 48kHz In port!

I've attached the manual page if it helps trigger anyone's memory. So while Word Clock uses the same BNC connection, and cable types, I can never get the Big Ben to show a valid sync when I connect it to the 48kHz in port on the QS8. Like you could sync all of your Alesis gear together when recording to an ADAT(conveniently also made by Alesis). I'm thinking these devices may have pre-dated the Word Clock standard, and that 48kHz in port isn't actually a Word Clock port, but is more of an Alesis-proprietary sync port. Interestingly the QS8 has a 48kHz In port on the back - which leads me to my question. I do understand the need to digital sync once you enter that domain, and I do have an Apogee Big Ben for some other connected gear. Never really messed with the digital out connections, but I've been playing around with the studio connections recently.
